Ayman al-Zawahiri, top lieutenant to al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, said that the U.S. will be defeated in Iraq and Afghanistan and should expect more attacks. Americans in those two countries are caught "between two fires, if they continue, they will bleed to death, and if they withdraw, they will lose everything,'' the al-Qaeda lieutenant said in a videotaped message broadcast on the Arabic language television network Al-Jazeera

WASHINGTON — Newly unearthed memos state George W. Bush was suspended from flying for the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam war because he failed to meet Guard standards and failed to take his annual flight physical as required. The suspension came as Bush was trying to arrange a transfer to non-flying status with a unit in Alabama so he could work on a political campaign there.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - US military deaths in the Iraq campaign passed 1,000 Tuesday, an Associated Press tally showed, as a spike in fighting with both Sunni and Shiite insurgents killed seven Americans in scattered clashes in the Baghdad area.
